How to reset the chips ( clear the cartridges not recognized by the printer message) for the CISS that don't have the reset switch on top of the cartridges.
Below is the instruction for Epson CX7400 Printer, but you can use the same technique for CX5000, CX6000, Cx7000, CX7450, CX8400, CX9400f.

I had to purchase 2 systems for the CX7400. The first system would not allow me to remove the air from the blue cartredge. I used the syringe to remove air via the plug on the top of the cartredge, but it never filled with ink I discovered that the side of that cartredge had not been sealed correctly and instead of drawing air out and pulling ink through the line that it was pulling air through the side of the cartredge where the plastic pieces are connected. This was discovered by lifting the the resevor bottles above the cartredges allowing gravity to fill the cartredge. It was then visable that ink was leaking from upper portion of the cartredge where the side connects to the body. I then ordered another CISS System. I installed the second system and found that for some reason, when the set of cartredges were put into the cartredge carrier that black ink was leaking out of the bottom of the cartredge carrier. I removed the cartredges from the carrier and replaced the black cartredge from the second set with the black cartredge from the first set. this eliminated the problem of the blacl ink leak. I then reinstalled the system and the empty cartredge light was on indicating that the red ink cartredge was empty. I lifted the cartredges up to break contact of the chip, pushed them back in place, same problem. I removed the plug on the cartredge, used the syringe to make sure that there was no air in the line, ( before removing the syringe from the cartredge, replace the plug on the resivor bottle, This will keep the ink in the cartredge from leaking out the top of the cartredge before you can get the cartredge plug in place. Then remove the plug from the resivor bottle to put the ink from the syringe into the resivor.) The On screen message was that the cartredge was not recognized. The steps of lifting the cartredges, and removing air (There was no air in the system), was repeated, Printer shut down, computer shut down, cold boot, etc. I stopped counting. Red cartredge would not reset. Finally took the red cartredge from the first CISS system and exchanged it with the red cartredge from the second system that would not reset, used the syringe to pull the ink through and remove the air, pluged the printer in and no more 'cartredge not recognized' message. 3 bad cartredges in 2 CISS systems. For now, it works. |
